Meet the Makers of Teal Barn Company

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by Notes From the Teal Barn. With our inaugural post we'll tell you a bit about ourselves. Follow up posts will tell you how Teal Barn Company came to be, what kinds of adventures you can have with us, some tips and tricks to use on your own projects and anything else that makes sense to share in the world of making awesome stuff.

From the Land of 10,000 Lakes to the Peach State

Teal Barn Company is run by Valerie and Eric Anderson (your friendly author of this blog post). We are transplants to Georgia, though it barely feels like it any more. I’m pretty sure you can only tell due to the occasional long ‘o’ on words like know or boat. We left Minnesota mid-2011 for my job at Home Depot as I found myself leaving the four walls of the premier do-it-yourself warehouse and joining their store support center. The plan was a one year rotation in Georgia before getting placed in a market to help grow their services business. What actually happened is our family fell in love with the area and poof, now we've been here almost fifteen years.

Kids, Coffee and a Farm...Probably

We’re proud parents to two incredibly lovely young women. Caitlyn is our eldest daughter, an entrepreneurial creative in her own right and making marketing magic happen in Newnan. Lydia is our youngest and spends 50% of her time in high school, 50% of her time in college and 50% of her time on the soccer field. I know the math doesn't math, but she makes it work. In addition to the kiddos, we have several chickens that live in a custom two bedroom mother-in-law suite in the woods, three dogs that are completely unaware that they are not actually people and strong aspirations for mini goats or tiny cows or itty bitty pigs, depending which TikTok is trending for the week. If I'm being honest, it’ll probably be all three.

Since I’m making a whole blog post introducing ourselves, there’s another foundational detail you need to know. It’s a dark topic. Roasted to perfection even. I’m talking about coffee. Coffee is not only a love language for Valerie and I, it is absolutely a third full-time member of the Teal Barn Company. It’s not clear if we do our best thinking with coffee in-hand or if we just always have a coffee when we’re conscious. In either case three cheers for caffeine!

What's Next?

So how (and why) did this coffee slugging dynamic duo set up a hands-on maker-space in Bremen, GA? Well, you'll just have to tune in to the next post. Until then, go make something awesome! Click here if you need some inspiration.
